How is the artwork made?

My artwork usually begins with a rough sketch of the car in either pencil or pen.  Once the vehicle is roughly sketched and modifications added, the design is then vectored out in Adobe Illustrator, which is a digital Illustration program.

Vectoring is just the same as tracing free hand, but instead it is done on computer using special Illustrating programs. A finished vector design should look like an outline picture out of a kids colouring book.

After the design is vectored in Adobe Illustrator, I then export the design into another program called Adobe Photoshop CS, which is a very sophisticated photo editing program that allows me to render my illustration. All the final colour separations and background effects are carried out at this stage, including cropping and scaling of the image. Once the design is finished and I’m happy with the outcome, the design is then ready for printing.

Digital illustration is a fairly profound subject and is a worthy challenge to master. The payoff is worth the effort and illustrators will be able to realize their talents by putting forth the work and discipline needed to master the subject.
